“Tough Choices or Tough Times” is an interesting report written by the National Center on Education and the Economy. This supports our work at GoliathJobs and GoliathJobsOver50 because we believe that Employment starts with Education.

Several colleges and technical schools are laying off faculty & staff. Others are closing their campuses. Lower enrollment, tough economic times, increasing rents and population shifts have all contributed to this.
These people have a vast array of talent and could possibly fill roles in Corporate America or at other schools that may be hiring. Personnel that have experience in education are well educated themselves and have great interpersonal skills including public speaking, managing, training and more. These personnel are flexible on hours and could help employers keep their staffing costs low. Others that have served administrative roles are great on computers, data-entry, book keeping, event planning, etc. Career service personnel, for example, are ideal candidates for HR departments.
GoliathJobs is assisting these personnel in every conceivable way. Our mission is to maximize their exposure to all opportunities and HR venues.

On the hottest day of the summer, the GoliathJobs team participated in the Gibbs College Career Fair. The event was held on June 10, 2008 at the school’s New York City location.
The event was a success with a steady stream of traffic from students, alumni, faculty, staff and local employers.
Here is a picture of our table and banners:

Have a great day!

Great article in the Wall Street Journal about incoming freshman from New York that are attending schools in the Midwest such as Indiana University. Similar to many funny movies that bring together New Yorkers with people from the rest of the country, this article reflects on the difference in personalities. People from the New York tri-state area (NY, CT, NJ) have a unique personality and move at a different pace.
I am a firm believer that New York is the greatest city in the world. It is good for mid-westerners to get a taste of that. I also think it is healthy for New Yorkers to get a taste of the hospitality, warmth and slower pace of the Midwest.
Like any melting pot, I think it is great to bring together cultures even if it is within the same country. GoliathJobs is a melting pot in a similar fashion. Our site is a perfect blend of job seekers, schools and employers throughout North America. Our “pot” is getting even bigger because we will be offering international functionality by the end of the year!

“More alums are out of work now … and they’re looking for different means to find a job,” said David Mezzapelle, founder of GoliathJobs.com, a free online employment service for students and alumni that lets employers list vacancies on college Web sites.

Taking a break once in awhile is easier said then done. Working hard, being diligent and staying focused are all important. However, overworking and burning out is counter-productive and can impede your health.
Take a look at this happy guy in 1976:

Sure, he may be 8 years old in this picture but there is no reason why today he can’t spend a day at the beach once in a while.
At the commencement of the GoliathJobs/GoliathJobsOver50 project, I became deeply entrenched in work. This entrenchment lead to time away from family, exercise and health. Fortunately I knew enough to stop “burning the candle on both ends” and resume a balanced life.
I exercise daily, take time for my family, eat well, etc. I turn off the laptop and go to sleep by 11pm at the latest. If more people found the same work-life balance, I am certain that heart attacks, heart disease and other illnesses would be reduced. Stress is a silent killer and serves no good purpose.
So whether I am 8 or 80 I can still live that picture above.

At GoliathJobs we believe that employment starts with education.
People generally learn and/or improve their careers through education. Law, culinary arts, accounting, finance, business, food & beverage, healthcare, engineering, skilled trades, etc. are just a few examples of the thousands of skills which are learned, mastered & practiced.
Doesn’t it make sense to connect job seekers to employers at the source of their education? That is why at GoliathJobs we connect employers to job seekers via schools. This includes colleges, graduate schools, high schools as well as technical & trade schools.
Thank you for reading. Have a great day.

According to the Wall Street Journal, “Unions, construction contractors and other businesses are trying to figure out how to attract more younger people to skilled trades. To highlight the benefits of a career in the skilled trades, employers are turning to schools, the military and the web.”
GoliathJobs is a facilitator of this and is becoming the standard throughout North America - including for employers in the skilled trade industries.
