“Hard to find a job, but not an internship” great article from CNNMoney

Michele O'Connor, GoliathJobs.comby Michele O’Connor

“Companies are cutting back on jobs but hiring more summer interns to keep their talent pipeline supplied. More students want to get on-the-job experience,” according to Tami Luhby, CNNMoney.com senior writer.

There is a myriad of other benefits that come from this in addition to the cost savings:

1. These interns learn your culture. If you hire them post graduation they are already acclimated to your organization and will not require additional training.

2. Interns are “bright-eyed & bushy-tailed.” They want to learn and better their career prospects.

3. Supporting local schools is a natural occurrence when hiring interns. This reveals your organization’s commitment to the community.

4. As the baby boomer population grows, and less “young” people are available to replace them, you want to beef up those internships. Supply is limited so “stock-up!”

And much more as you see when perusing the GoliathJobs and GoliathJobsOver50 sites.

Great article. Here is the link to the full story from CNN Money:

Message to School Administrators

David Mezzapelle, Founder GoliathJobs.comBy David Mezzapelle

Hello School Administrators,

GoliathJobs will be featured in The Wall Street Journal on July 1. This article will reference “alumni career services” which is an important topic for your school.

Our company believes that your career service department is not only valuable for students & recent grads, but is equally valuable for alumni of all ages & experience levels. We consistently remind employers that they can turn to schools for posting jobs that encompass entry-level, middle management, senior management, professional, etc.

More & more alumni are connected to their schools today thanks to technology. It is a perfect place for employers to search for active and passive candidates. This format also keeps alumni of all ages connected to their alma maters as well as strengthens the relationships between schools and local employers. However, it is quite common that older alumni are not aware of the “lifetime career services” your school may offer. As a result, many of you have asked us for an email or newsletter content that reminds alumni of this. If you are interested in receiving this information please let me know via dmezz@goliathjobs.com.

GoliathJobs & GoliathJobsOver50 are facilitators of this model. We are confident that the future of recruiting will reflect this type of service and bring much success to employers & job seekers (of all ages).

Thank you for your attention and for being part of the GoliathJobs family.

David Mezzapelle
Founder, Director of Marketing

“Attn: Employers, How to Run a Successful College Recruiting Program”

David Eisner, GoliathJobs.comby David Eisner

I recently read a publication from Jobster that gives employers advice on running a successful college recruiting program. Here are some of those best practices:

*Identify which colleges or universities you want to target and start communicating with key contacts at those schools.
*Research websites or newsletters that serve those students.
*Identify employees who are alumni of those schools (if possible).
*Take your employment brand seriously. What do you have to offer these students, and how can you best communicate those benefits?
*Start communicating, collecting names and creating relationships.

I would like to add one very important element; consider hiring experienced personnel through schools as well. There are millions of qualified people with many years of experience that still remain connected to their schools. This is done usually through alumni associations and alumni career services.

GoliathJobs is being featured on July 1 in the Wall Street Journal regarding this topic.

Good luck in your search!

Thanks for reading.

Focus Groups and Market Research from GoliathJobs - Naturally!

Michele O'Connor, GoliathJobs.comby Michele O’Connor

With a wonderful verified audience of job seekers, school administrators and employers throughout North America, wouldn’t it be great if they could opt-in to participate in focus groups? Now they can!

GoliathJobs offers focus group and market research services to organizations interested in targeting our demographic and ascertaining market interest. Our team can create and execute focus groups directly into the applicable demographic. This applies accuracy to a product/service campaign and ultimately a premium ROI. Our team will produce a high-quality, easy-to-read report at the end of the focus group process.

A focus group is a form of qualitative research that includes an interviewer and several qualified respondents. Respondents are asked about their attitude towards a product, service, concept, advertisement, idea or packaging. Questions are usually asked in an interactive group setting where all parties are free to talk. This can take place online or at one of our facilities.

Focus groups are an important tool for acquiring feedback regarding new products, services or topics. In particular, focus groups allow companies wishing to develop a new product to discuss, view and test the product before it is made available to the public. This can provide valuable information about the potential market acceptance.

Our unique model, and accurate respondent universe, is cost effective for any organization.

Have a good week.

Greenwich Connecticut from a GoliathJobs Viewpoint

Jennifer Porter, GoliathJobs.comBy Jennifer Porter

I was forwarded a great article about Greenwich Connecticut by a colleague from ERE.net (Electronic Recruiters Exchange). The article appeared in the Los Angeles Times last week. Here is a link to that article:

http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-greenwich29-2008may29,0,7973559.story

GoliathJobs’ Headquarters is in Stamford Connecticut which borders Greenwich. While we are a national organization, we obviously have a significant volume of traffic from the local area as well.

It is correct to assert that the entire country is effected by the economic climate but there will always be areas of significant wealth that are somewhat insulted (but never 100%). And this is a good thing. If a town like Greenwich is hit hard then the rest of the country has a lot to worry about. If the leaders in industry and finance go belly-up then that usually means the rest of their organization is out of work. An economy 101 trickle-down effect.

From a GoliathJobs standpoint we are still seeing jobs available in the Greenwich/Fairfield County/Westchester areas. We are seeing postings for financial, legal and IT support personnel along with the usual healthcare and education postings. Hospitality has slowed slightly as well but still exists.

Our founder, David Mezzapelle, recently spoke to a large group of local & regional execs (CT, NY, NJ). He addressed the strength of the local economy and also addressed key areas of growth. That event should be posted on our blog shortly.

Thank you for reading!

Sex in the City. I’m getting tired of hearing about it!

David Eisner, GoliathJobs.comby David Eisner

I know this has nothing to do with recruiting but is everyone tired of hearing about the Sex in the City movie? Not only is it being discussed in every form of media, even the Wall Street Journal is “buzzing” about it.

There is actually some real news in the world. Can someone please talk about that instead? If so, try to talk about “Good News.” I firmly believe that hearing/reading good news will cause more good news to happen. The Law of Attraction!

I feel better now. THANKS!
