“Companies are cutting back on jobs but hiring more summer interns to keep their talent pipeline supplied. More students want to get on-the-job experience,” according to Tami Luhby, CNNMoney.com senior writer.
There is a myriad of other benefits that come from this in addition to the cost savings:
1. These interns learn your culture. If you hire them post graduation they are already acclimated to your organization and will not require additional training.
2. Interns are “bright-eyed & bushy-tailed.” They want to learn and better their career prospects.
3. Supporting local schools is a natural occurrence when hiring interns. This reveals your organization’s commitment to the community.
4. As the baby boomer population grows, and less “young” people are available to replace them, you want to beef up those internships. Supply is limited so “stock-up!”
