Ocean State Job Lot is New England’s “Home of Adventure Shopping.” Millions of Job Lot customers enjoy hunting for quality brand name merchandise at closeout prices. Ocean State Job Lot opened for business in 1977 as a single store operation in North Kingstown, RI. The idea was to sell brand name, first quality products at closeout prices. Friday May 23, 2008 was Pet Day at the GoliathJobs Jupiter Florida Office. In addition to GoliathJobs, other companies in the building were encouraged to bring their pets to work as well. It was a great day and I was fortunate enough to be visiting the Jupiter office that week.

On May 15, 2008 staff members from GoliathJobs Stamford attended the Business & Health Expo in NY. The event was held at Terrace on the Park, site of the World’s Fair in 1939 and 1940. GoliathJobs was one of the main exhibitors along the Queen’s Chamber of Commerce (the organizer of the event).

David Mezzapelle, Founder & Director of Marketing at GoliathJobs, had given numerous speeches and presentations. One of his main presentations addressed the Baby Boomer & Retiree demographic. David affirmed to the audience that organizations need to align their efforts to facilitate hiring employees over 50 and/or retaining employees over 50. He feels that this is the only way to remain competitive for the next 20-30 years with the shift in population. His presentation listed the various attributes that comprise the average baby boomer (loyal, flexible, talented, hard-working, stable, etc). At the same time, he stressed the importance of attracting younger people as well (i.e. recent graduates). David feels that this demographic is shrinking and employers will be competing for the best talent.

The event proved successful for many attendees including GoliathJobs.com and GoliathJobsOver50.com. Businesses, corporations, nonprofits, schools and individuals were all impressed with our presentations. These entities were equally impressed with our model and have since registered on our site. We estimated a 95% adoption rate of event attendees to actual registrations. Here are some pictures from the event:

I normally do not write about my hobbies. However, I love wine and appreciate the winemaking process as well as it’s incredible history worldwide.
