I thought you would enjoy the video below. It not only addresses the large endowments at certain schools, it also addresses the ever-increasing cost of college. These costs weigh on low income and middle income families.  An internship can help. 

Many people do not realize that internships serve several purposes. First, an internship can provide income during college. This income can help cover some of the costs of attending college such as incidentals, books, rent if applicable, food, tuition, etc. (I can’t say “beer money” so I won’t). Second, an internship can reduce the number of elective courses a student is required to take. That reduction allows the student to focus harder on other classes while gaining valuable experience (and income) toward their major. Third, an internship paves the way to a future career post graduation.
