Since 1985 there has only been five occasions where payroll employment figures revealed a monthly decline outside of a recession period. The press has been covering the student loan issue extensively over the past year. The issue came about when a number of lenders were accused of offering incentives to university financial-aid offices in exchange for getting on their preferred lender lists. Colleges and universities provide these lists to potential student borrowers. The issue has reduced the trust that students and parents have in their school’s financial-aid offices. Many people are now looking for alternative resources for student loans, such as internet-based services and lenders that service the consumer directly.

A great article about this titled “Student Lending Services Become Available Online” was recently written by Anne Marie Chaker of the Wall Street Journal.
